Being an important cardiology institution recognized internationally, we strive to enhance collaboration among cardiac organizations, in particular for a closer relationship with our mainland counterparts. At the same time, we also continue mutually beneficial interactions with professional communities around the world.
Looking back at the first half year of 2015, I am proud to say that we have achieved very distinguished results. The College is one of the co-organizers of CardioRhythm 2015 in January, also the 17th South China International Congress of Cardiology held in Guangzhou in April, the 23rd Annual Scientific Congress which was successfully held in May; and Cardiovascular Interventional Summit which will be held in Shenzhen in December. An increasing number of participants were drawn from the professional communities in Hong Kong, Mainland China and other countries to these international cardiac meetings.
The College continues its involvement in the Hong Kong Heart Foundation Fellowship Programme, which supports local cardiology trainees to undergo advanced cardiology training in world renowned centers overseas.
The College has also been actively involved with community projects for heart health promotion. The Jump Rope for Heart program continues its recruitment of school children for promotion of heart health through rope skipping. Our annual highlight "World Heart Day" will be celebrated on 15 November 2015 with over 4000 participants are expected to join this meaningful event. In order to develop all schools in Hong Kong into "heart-safe" premises through installation of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and to instill in their students the awareness of maintaining a healthy lifestyle throughout life, The Jockey Club "Heart-safe School Project" will continue to train school personnel the use of AED with CPR in Phase III.
Besides, the College co-operated with Department of Health to launch a series of programs in order to enhance the public awareness of heart healthy diet. These included the "Fruit Month", "EatSmart @ School.hk Campaign" and "EatSmart @ Restaurant.hk Campaign". All had achieved effective outcomes.
The diversified and calendar-full activities organized by the College would not be successfully held without the dedication and active participation of its members, support of friends and the contribution of leading practitioners and academics both locally and abroad. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for their continuous support and effort.
